    Workshop on Third Generation Science Park Concept at Innopolis Foundation, Daejeon

    Ilkka Kakko was invited to have a workshop with the participants of Innopolis Foundation’s International Training Program. The title for a half-day event was ”Workshop on Third Generation Science Park Concept” and there were about 30 attendees, mainly STP managers and governmental policy makers from 15 countries.

    The introductory presentation by Ilkka and the following work in small teams generated a lot of dialogue and the feedback after the event was really positive. This session held on November 12th was part of a continiuos collaboration between Innopolis Foundation and Karostech, which started earlier on the summer, when Dr. Seo from Innopolis Foundation was in Finland on a visit organized by Karostech.

    Innopolis Foundation is the leading creative economy driver in South Korea and is promoting new technologies and markets. The focus in their strategy is to:
    • Commercialize public technology and activate start-ups or business foundation
    • Professionalize the commercialization mechanism
    • Create open ecosystems for the growth of INNOPOLIS

    Contributing to Skolkovo round table at Innovation Forum in Saint Petersburg

    Chairman of the Board Erik Raita has been recently contributing to the round table of technoparks and business incubators organized by Technopark Skolkovo at Saint Petersburg’s International Innovation Forum.

    Erik’s presentation was devoted to the science parks of the 3rd generation based on our 3GSP concept. Our role was to bring the independent consultant’s view over the global trends that shape the innovation landscape affecting the function of science parks. Other panelists have represented viewpoints of the actual actors of innovation ecosystem, such as science park and business incubator management (Igor Rozhdestvenskiy, Technopark Ingria), the industry (Kirill Soloveychik, Lenpoligraphmash holding), the university (Boris Novikov, LETI technical university), and the start-up (Taisiya Kudashkina, tulp.ru). The session was moderated by Anna Nikina from Technopark Skolkovo.

    Ilkka Kakko attended the high level Round Table discussion at St. Petersburg International Economic Forum

    Ilkka Kakko contributed to the Round Table discussion about the future of Russian technoparks as an invited speaker. Ilkka explained the ongoing transformation in Finnish technopark scene and the emergence of new innovation organizations as well as introduced our 3GSP model. The topic raised lot of questions and the impact of this new trend in Russian context was one of the key discussions in the event.

    The event was part of SPIEF 2013 (Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum) organized by Ingria and attended by the the representatives of  Ministry of Communications of the Russian Federation as well as managers of the major Russian technology parks and leading organizations like Ingria, Skolkovo, Novosibirsk Technopark, Rosatom, Rostec and Megapir

    Karostech in charge of the innovation development part of the regional strategy of Leningrad Oblast, Russia

    Karostech has been contracted by Finnish Consulting Group to develop the innovation strategy for Leningrad oblast region of Russia. Our work was a part of a large strategy development project aiming at increasing investment attractiveness of the region. In addition to innovation related topics, like science park development and community building principles, our responsibility covered also the action plan for IT and media promotion of the region towards potential investors. The end customer of that project was the Economic Development Committee of the Government of Leningrad oblast.

    Cooperation agreement signed with the shipbuilding and aircraft industry cluster of Khabarovsk district, Russia

    Karostech has recently signed a cooperation agreement with the Innovative nautical architecture and aircraft industry regional cluster of Khabarovsk district of Russian Federation.

    In addition to the local industry and regional development bodies among the members of the cluster there are such organizations as Ministries of Industry and Trade and Economic Development of the Russian Federation, Russian Venture Company, RosNano, etc.

    The agreement aims at the development of the regional innovation ecosystem built around strong local expertise in shipbuilding and airspace industries. The main focus of the cooperation is the development of a modern science and technology park as well as activating professional communities both on local and global level.

    Karostech presented in Kazakhstan Innovation Forum

    Karostech participated in the Innovation Forum organised by the Ministry of Economy of Kazakhstan held in Kazakhstan’s capital Astana November 17-18. Chairman of the Board Erik Raita presented a speech about ”Innovative Networks and Technoparks of Third Generation”.

Our cooperation with CSR NW has started back in 2009. Since then we’ve participated in a number of CSR’s projects providing market surveys and reports on specific innovation related topics and also presenting at various conferences, forums and seminars organized by CSR around Russia. Our contribution has mostly focused on innovation communities, third generation of science parks and building knowledge ecosystems. The geography of this fruitful cooperation includes such remote locations as Khabarovsk in Russian Far-East as well as Khanty-Mansijsk and Krasnoyarsk regions in Siberia.

    Two presentations at Rosatom’s seminar in Skolkovo

    Our experts were invited to give presentations at the “Instruments of the cluster policy” seminar on April 24, organized by The Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation ROSATOM in Skolkovo Business School, Moscow.

    The topic of Ilkka Kakko’s speech was “Innovative infrastructure of clusters. Technoparks 3.0.”. Erik Raita presented about the role of innovation communities in cluster policy.
